Celebrating 75 Years of U.S.-Pakistan Educational and Cultural Exchange
2025 marks a significant milestone in the journey of the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) as we proudly celebrate 75 years of fostering educational and cultural exchange between the United States and Pakistan. This anniversary not only commemorates our shared history but also highlights the partnership that has enriched the lives of thousands of individuals from both countries.
Since its inception in 1950, USEFP has been at the forefront of educational and cultural exchange, empowering almost 9,200 Pakistani students, scholars, and professionals from all provinces of the nation through highly competitive U.S. exchange programs and hosting 961 Americans to teach, conduct research, and study in Pakistan.
The Fulbright Program is the U.S. government's flagship academic exchange, and the program in Pakistan has had the honor of being the largest in the world. Since 2005, the U.S. government has awarded nearly 3,000 fully funded scholarships to top-notch Pakistani students, enabling them to complete their graduate studies. While in the United States, our Pakistani awardees added to American excellence in higher education, returning with expertise that benefits their communities.
Through the Fulbright Program, USEFP also administers the Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Program (FLTA) for young English language teachers. Since the program's inception in 2004, 112 teachers have traveled to the United States to improve their English teaching skills.
The Fulbright Scholar and Specialist programs enable scholars and researchers from both countries to collaborate on projects and programs of mutual national benefit, while also advancing their particular research.
In 1980, the U.S. government launched the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship in Pakistan, which provides mid-career professionals with a unique opportunity for academic and professional exchange. Established to promote professional training, enhancements, and collaborative engagement between American and international peers, the Humphrey Program has cultivated a new generation of civil service, non-governmental sector, and private industry leaders who are making significant contributions to Pakistan's development.
In short, the impact of our exchanges reaches far beyond the classroom and the program year. USEFP has created a thriving network of over 10,000 alumni impacting various fields, including technology, education, health, business, entrepreneurship, and many more. Their successes highlight the transformative power of these programs, and we aim to strengthen the ties that connect our nations.
Join us in celebrating this incredible journey and the bright future that lies ahead for U.S.-Pakistan relations in education and cultural exchange!
