U.S. - PAKISTAN UNIVERSITY PARTNERSHIPS GRANTS PROGRAM 2020-23

Program Background

The U.S. - Pakistan University Partnerships Grants Program 2020-23, follows the success of the University Partnership initiative 2013-2016, through which American universities in 20 partnerships with Pakistani universities received U.S. government grants to establish three-year bilateral academic relationships.

Purpose of the University Partnerships Grants Program 2020-23

The University Partnerships Grants Program 2020-23 (UPGP) is funded by the United States Government and administered by the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP). The program enables departments of the universities which participated in the original partnerships described above to apply for grants supporting follow-on projects to share their partnership acquired knowledge and expertise with Pakistani universities not part of the original partnerships program.

The grants support the development of new partnerships focusing on Pakistani higher education institutional capacity building in the following areas:

  • Faculty development
  • Joint research
  • Curriculum design
  • Training support in setting up new programs
  • Developing university linkages
  • Promoting people to people ties enabling American and Pakistani faculty to connect, share knowledge, and build lasting connections

The program strongly encourages the following:

  • Inclusion of women and minorities as trainers and trainees
  • Support for newly chartered public sector universities
