Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA)
The FLTA Program is a nine-month, U.S. Department of State funded, non-degree program that provides young teachers of English an opportunity to refine their teaching skills, increase their English language proficiency and extend their knowledge of the society and culture of the United States, while teaching their native language to U.S. students and strengthening foreign language instruction at U.S. colleges and universities. Fulbright FLTA participants also interact with their host communities in conversation groups, extracurricular activities, and community outreach projects. Fulbright FLTA participants must immediately return to their home countries upon completion of the program.

Eligibility Criteria
- Pakistani national with a valid Pakistani Passport.
- Resident in Pakistan throughout the nomination and selection process.
- Be a young, early career educator.
- Minimum of 16 years of formal education.
- Be a teacher of the English language or a related field at the college or university level.
- Prior teaching experience is preferred.
How to apply
A complete application package, including academic transcripts, letters of reference must be submitted online by the application submission deadline. This is an online application. Paper copies will not be accepted.

What is included in the FLTA program?
The grant funds tuition, airfare, textbooks, a living stipend, and health insurance.

If I am selected when will I begin the fellowship program in the U.S?
Fall semester.

I start the application online from the website www.usefp.org. Now what do I do?
Before beginning to fill out the application form, it is imperative that you read the application form carefully as well as the general information pages and instructions that accompany it. The general information pages give an overview of the program and application review process. The instructions provide specific information about completing certain points of the application. Be sure to fully complete the application form. If a section does not apply to you, please write "Not Applicable".

Do I really have to take the TOEFL?
You are not required to take TOEFL exam at this point. Only selected candidates will be asked to take TOEFL and USEFP will pay for it.

How will I know that my application was received?
You will receive an auto generated acknowledgement from USEFP once you submit your application online.

How does the selection process work?
Selection process has four stages:
Round 1: All applications will be screened by USEFP staff for completeness and minimum qualifications.
Round 2: Complete applications that meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated according to a set of established criteria and short listed.
Round 3: Virtual interviews of short-listed applicants will take place between July - September. The interview panels are made up of both U.S. and Pakistani citizens.
Round 4: Final candidates and alternates will be selected in October. Applicants who have become finalists or alternates will be notified by phone / email. Those who do not get selected will be notified by e-mail.

Will I need to submit any additional documents if I become a finalist?
Yes, Finalist will be required to submit a medical history and examination form, scanned copy of valid passport and No objection certificate (NOC) from employer / government of Pakistan.

Can I defer my FLTA award to the following academic year?
No, generally you cannot defer. Deferral for FLTA program is not an option.

If I decline FLTA award, and reapply, will my application be given preference?
Although you are welcome to apply again, your application will not be given preferential treatment.

Can I take dependents?
No, dependents are not allowed on this program.
